Small tools, built with care
Lotlsoft builds small full-stack web applications. We work from Fitzroy North, Melbourne. Around thirty of them are public, and the front page lists all of them.
Two threads run through most of what we ship.
Decision support. Tools that help people make a call by showing them the facts, not rolling them into a score or ranking. Close Enough surfaces publicly available property data: walking distances, flood zones, planning overlays. Piksi asks you one pairwise question at a time until your own preferences are on the table. You decide what matters.
The record, with receipts. Some questions already have an answer written down somewhere hard to find. Evidiant, Crawlspace and RentingOnRecord run on the same engine: every claim is a quote from a named source, dated, and graded by who published it. Where the evidence settles a question, they say so. Where it does not, they say that instead.
Shopstead helps small businesses run a simple web presence, and it will not put words in their mouth: no invented customer quotes, no invented audit history, and the tells that make copy read as machine-written stripped at publish time. If the source material is too thin, we ask the owner rather than fill in.
There are also games. Bongard, Knot, QA Game. Not everything has to be useful.
Where governments and public bodies publish data, we try to make it actually usable. Melbourne Seasons takes 45 years of daily reanalysis records, 1981 to 2025, and asks where Melbourne's year naturally divides. The answer is seven seasons, not four. Close Enough does the same for Victorian planning, transport, and safety data, and RentingOnRecord does it for the Residential Tenancies Act.
The apps sit on a common spine. One sign-in covers the ones that need an account. The analytics and error tracking are ours, written here and shared across the fleet, which is why there are no third-party trackers to remove. Payments and notifications are each one service rather than one per app.
Each app also carries a manifest describing what it collects, and its privacy policy is generated from that manifest instead of written by hand, so the policy cannot quietly drift away from the code. Most user-facing behaviour is described in a machine-checked model that fails the build when the code and the description disagree.
We don't set tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner. No third-party analytics. No selling data. No dark patterns. We try hard on accessibility and fix it when we get it wrong.
Lotlsoft is a small independent studio. Email is the only support channel, and there are no phone lines, live chat or response-time guarantees. Small keeps the work careful.
